Executive Summary

VIVID, one of the UK’s largest housing associations, wanted to help customers manage rising living costs without adding strain to resources. Through its charitable arm, VIVID Plus, it partnered with Housing Perks to provide a free savings app giving discounts at over 100 supermarkets, high street shops, and online retailers. Since launch tenants have spent £1.1m in the app, saved £50k and have contributed £13k towards their rent accounts.

The Challenge

With the cost of living crisis continuing to impact households, VIVID customers faced increasing pressure on everyday budgets. Food, energy, and essential goods had all risen in price significantly, creating financial strain and contributing to rent payment challenges.

Traditional support schemes could be costly and resource-heavy, so VIVID needed a scalable, self-service solution that could reach thousands without requiring ongoing admin.

The Solution

VIVID partnered with Housing Perks to launch the free-to-use savings app for all customers.Housing Perks offers instant discounts of up to 20% at well-known brands including ASDA, B&M, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Primark, Argos, and TK Maxx.

The app meets strict security and compliance standards, ensuring customer data is protected. The Housing Perks team also introduced the Rent Contributions feature, enabling customers to direct savings towards rent and arrears reduction.

“We recently had the pleasure of working with Housing Perks, and we couldn't be more impressed with the experience. From the outset, the team at Housing Perks was incredibly accommodating, demonstrating a genuine commitment to understanding our needs and delivering a solution that exceeded our expectations.”

The Impact in Year One: Sustained Savings, Zero Overhead

In 18 months, VIVID tenants spent £1.1m in the app and saved £50k and they contributed £13k to their rent account.

These savings have helped households offset the rising cost of essentials such as food, clothing, and home goods, freeing up budgets for other important needs. Customers have reported that the discounts make a tangible difference each month, easing financial pressures and supporting overall wellbeing.

Beyond day-to-day savings, the introduction of the Rent Contributions feature means customers can now channel their app savings directly towards rent or arrears. This not only benefits tenants but also supports VIVID’s income collection goals, helping to prevent arrears from building and reducing the need for intervention.

The positive engagement levels and consistent usage across the year show that Housing Perks is more than a short-term relief tool, it’s become a regular part of how many VIVID customers manage their household spending. With the programme continuing to grow and more deals being added, the benefits are expected to increase year-on-year.

It’s great to see the positive impact the Housing Perks app has had on our customers... savings and benefits have been substantial, and we’re committed to continuing to provide support like this to our communities.
